Healthy Activities to Do With the Family in Las Vegas

When most people think of Las Vegas, they immediately think of the Strip, Fremont, and all the casinos plastered around the city. While that makes for a lot of fun for those over the age of 21, it doesn’t do much for those with kids. Of course, that doesn’t mean you aren’t left with options!

Living in Las Vegas comes with a lot of perks. Despite it getting cold in the winter time, you’re never without the almighty sun and are rarely given a rainy day to worry about. That means plenty of outdoor fun and year-round family activities to keep everyone happy and healthy.

Whether you have younger children or older kids, parents have plenty of healthy activities to do with the family. It’s a great way to get everyone involved, makes for the perfect bonding moment with the kids, and teaches your family healthy habits that they can utilize throughout their life.

5 Healthy Activities to Do With the Family in Las Vegas

Las Vegas can be as family-friendly as you make it, it’s 100% up to you — no matter what public perception says. There’s enough to do in the area that you never have to avoid or ignore family time. You can easily get your family together and keep your family’s bond as strong as ever.

One thing to remember, especially if your family is getting together outdoors, is to stay hydrated. It gets extremely hot in Las Vegas and you’re almost always directly in the sun’s path. Drinking plenty of water is a must and will help you and your family lead a happy and healthy lifestyle.

If you’re new to the Las Vegas area or are bored and need some ideas when you’re off of work and the kids are off from school, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’re going to walk you through some of the most fun and exciting things you can do with the family in the Las Vegas area.

Outdoor Picnic at the Park

Despite being labeled a desert, Las Vegas has absolutely no shortages of parks. It seems like everywhere you turn, there’s a new park to discover and those parks have a ton of activities to do with the family — including setting up a picnic and eating a nice meal together as a family.

Most parks in the Las Vegas area even have their own grills that you can cook food, as well as a clean picnic table to sit down and eat at. All you need is some healthy food for you and your healthy kids, and you’re all good to go! For the best experience, find yourself some shade!

Some of the most popular parks in the area include Green Valley Park, Cornerstone Park, Reunion Trails Park, Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Sunset Park, Desert Breeze Park, Charlie Friars Park, Craig Ranch Regional Park, and more.

Head Over to the Community Pool

Living in Las Vegas requires two major things — air conditioning and access to a pool. If you have those two things, you’ll be just fine. The good news is most homes either come with their own pool or give community members access to a public, shared pool in their living complex.

No matter which one you have, spending some time out by the pool is a great way to get some sun. Better yet, swimming is a great way to stay active and get some physical activity — while also having fun. Get the whole family together and other local neighbors for a pool party!

You can also take a ride to one of the many water parks and attractions located throughout the Las Vegas Area, such as Wet ‘n WildCowabunga BayThe Tank (Golden Nugget), or the pool areas featured at the many hotels around the city. There’s water everywhere, so have fun!

Go for a Walk or Hike In the Mountains

Going for a hike or walk in the mountains is a great way to stay active, get a workout, and spend some quality time with the family. There are plenty of mountains to choose from, especially since Las Vegas is 100% surrounded by them. Everywhere you turn, you’ll see a mountain.

Like we mentioned above, you should always come prepared when exploring Las Vegas. That means having a sufficient amount of water, snacks, sunscreen, and anything else you might need when walking up a mountain. It’s the best way to stay healthy and active at the same time.

Two of the most popular destinations are Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area features 59 trails and over a dozen at Mount Charleston. You also have various walking trails throughout the Las Vegas communities.

Play Sports in the Backyard or the Park

Some Las Vegas residents are blessed to have a backyard, while others don’t. For those that do, playing a sport or a backyard game is a good way to keep your family active throughout the day. Just grab your favorite ball and start a pickup game in the comfort of your own home.

For those that don’t have a backyard, there are a wide range of parks that have fields and courts available — including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and much more. You can even create your own games to play at the park. Who knows, you might even start a trend!

Workout & Exercise As a Family

The final activity we have for you on our list of healthy activities to do with the family includes going to the gym. It’s a great way to partake in indoor physical activity and an even better way to challenge your family to burn those calories. Keep in mind, health and fitness go hand-in-hand.

There are also a variety of other ways you can exercise and work out that don’t include the gym. You can dance to your favorite music, complete some yard work, or go swimming — like we mentioned above. Exercise is exercise and we all need it on a daily basis to stay fit and healthy.

If you’re searching for a wonderful neighborhood gym to sign you and your family up at, Circuit Fitness LV is the perfect place.

We offer a free day pass to try out, monthly memberships, and even personal training if you need assistance with reaching your own personal fitness goals.
